Bergsfolkets kung svor Elendil trohet och lovade att infinna sig och sin här under kriget mot Sauron, men bergsfolket gömde sig uppe i bergen under sista alliansens tid. Sedan dog Elendil, ringen tog Isildur, och han talade då sin förbannelse över bergsfolket för att de brutit sin ed. Det är ju omöjligt att bryta en ed innan den kan inkrävas, och den inkrävdes när slaget började, därför så är det efter Sauron störtades som Isildur uttalade förbannelsen.
Eden svors strax efter Isildur kommit till Midgård och den bröts
innan Isildur drog ut i krig.
